The Oregon Bankers Association (OBA) inducted Jeffrey (Jeff) D. Sumpter, president and CEO of Lewis & Clark Bank, into the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame during the Oregon Bank Leadership Symposium held this week in Portland. Induction into the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed peer-to-peer within the Oregon banking community. It recognizes the outstanding contributions inductees have made to the Oregon banking industry, to the OBA, and to the communities in which they live and work. A born and raised Oregonian, Sumpter enlisted in the U.S. Navy following high school in Oregon City. After his service to the country, he began his banking career at U.S. Bank. During his time at U.S. Bank, he served in various branch management and sales positions. Eventually, he joined a small community bank where he served as chief lending officer. In 2008, he and his business partner Trey Maust co-founded Oregon City-based Lewis & Clark Bank where he currently serves as the bank’s president and CEO. Sumpter’s contributions to the OBA and Oregon banking community are vast. He has traveled countless times to Washington, D.C. to advocate for the industry and has testified multiple times before the Oregon Legislature on banking issues. In recognition of his advocacy work, Sumpter was named the recipient of OBA’s Frank E. Brawner Advocacy Award in 2022. In his service to OBA, Sumpter has chaired the Oregon Bankers Association, Community Banks of Oregon and OBA’s Credit Union Task Force. He has served on the boards of OBA’s subsidiary Synergy by Association and the OBA Education Foundation. He is also a member of OBA’s Government Relations Committee and is an Oregon BankPAC Trustee. Additionally, Sumpter has represented Oregon banking on the American Bankers Association’s Membership Council, Government Relations Council and the national BankPAC Committee. When it comes to his community, Sumpter has given back in many ways. He is a past chair of the Providence Willamette Falls Medical Foundation and past president of the Gladstone Rotary Club, among other volunteer positions he’s held over the years. In commenting about his induction into the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame, OBA President and CEO Linda Navarro stated, “I personally can’t think of a person that has voluntarily given more to OBA during the past 20 years. Jeff has already demonstrated in his career that he is a Hall of Famer. From founding a thriving bank to taking on virtually every leadership position within our association, he has done it all and still has years left to contribute.” Since its creation in 1987, the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame has inducted 83 individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Oregon banking community and the communities they serve. 2023 Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Sumpter (center), president and CEO of Lewis & Clark Bank, pictured with his family who were surprise guests during his induction.
